The 7-day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding treks on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering excellent acclimatization and a high summit success rate. Approaching the mountain from the west, this route takes you through pristine rainforest, across the expansive Shira Plateau, and along the dramatic Southern Circuit, providing breathtaking views of the mountain’s glaciers and valleys.
Although slightly shorter than the 8-day version, the 7-day itinerary is carefully crafted to balance daily trekking distances with acclimatization needs. With experienced guides, professional porters, nutritious meals, and comfortable camps, this trek ensures safety, adventure, and an unforgettable ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m)—the Roof of Africa.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. After check-in, meet your mountain guide for a detailed briefing, equipment check, and final preparations for the trek.
After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate for registration and park formalities. Begin trekking through the dense Montane Forest, home to blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, and rich birdlife. The trail gradually ascends to Mti Mkubwa Camp, located in a serene forest setting.
Start with a steady climb out of the forest into the Moorland Zone. Cross the stunning Shira Ridge and descend gently onto the Shira Plateau, one of the world’s highest plateaus. Continue to Shira 2 Camp, surrounded by panoramic views of Kibo Peak.
A crucial acclimatization day. Begin by ascending to the Lava Tower (4,600 m), where you will stop for lunch. Afterward, descend into the Barranco Valley to reach Barranco Camp beneath the iconic Barranco Wall. This “climb high, sleep low” approach boosts acclimatization and increases summit success.
Start the morning with a thrilling climb up the Barranco Wall, offering some of the best views of the entire trek. Continue across ridges and valleys of the Southern Circuit to Karanga Camp, your mid-way acclimatization stop.
A short but steep climb to Barafu Camp, your base for the summit attempt. The landscape becomes a stark alpine desert. Arrive early, rest, hydrate, and prepare your gear for the midnight summit push. Early dinner and early sleep.
Around midnight, begin the challenging ascent to Stella Point (5,756 m), then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photos, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
Enjoy a final breakfast before descending through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate, meet your driver, and transfer back to Moshi for a hot shower, rest, and relaxation.
Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). If you are continuing on safari or Zanzibar, we will assist with seamless onward arrangements.
Your adventure concludes with pride, accomplishment, and unforgettable memories from the Roof of Africa.
