The Northern Circuit Route is the longest and one of the most scenic routes to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Stretching across the mountain’s remote northern slopes, this trail delivers an unparalleled 360-degree journey around Africa’s highest peak. Because of its extended duration and gradual elevation gain, the Northern Circuit offers the best acclimatization of any route, resulting in the highest summit success rates on Kilimanjaro.
Beginning from the western Lemosho side, the trail winds through lush rainforest, crosses the vast Shira Plateau, and ventures into the quiet, untouched northern zones where trekkers encounter sweeping vistas and profound solitude. The dramatic landscapes—ranging from alpine desert to rugged volcanic ridges—provide some of the most diverse scenery on the mountain.
Physically demanding but exceptionally rewarding, the Northern Circuit is ideal for trekkers who want to maximize acclimatization while enjoying a quieter, more immersive experience. Its steady progression and spectacular summit approach make this one of Kilimanjaro’s finest trekking adventures.
