Day-to-Day Itinerary

Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro International Airport

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where our team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, meet your guide for a detailed climb briefing and gear inspection. Use the evening to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the days ahead.

Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp
  • Altitude: 1,600m → 2,850m
  • Distance: 11 km | Time: 5–7 hours

After registration at Umbwe Gate, begin your steep ascent through dense rainforest, following a narrow ridge with deep valleys on either side. The trail is quiet, rugged, and wild, offering one of the most secluded starts on Kilimanjaro. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Umbwe Cave Camp, tucked beneath towering trees and moss-covered forest.

Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp

  • Distance: 6 km | Time: 4–5 hours

The trail continues steeply, emerging from the forest into heath and moorland zones. As you ascend along the ridge, incredible views open up across deep valleys and toward the impressive Southern Glaciers. Eventually, the path merges with the Machame Route before reaching Barranco Camp—one of the most scenic campsites on Kilimanjaro, nestled beneath the towering Barranco Wall.

Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, tackle the iconic Barranco Wall—a thrilling ascent requiring careful footing but no technical skills. The climb is rewarding, offering spectacular views from the top. The trail then winds through rocky high-alpine terrain and crosses several small valleys before reaching Karanga Camp. This shorter day helps with acclimatization before the demanding final ascent.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Karanga Camp

Spend the day resting, hydrating, and taking short acclimatization hikes around Karanga Camp. This extra day significantly boosts your chances of reaching the summit safely and comfortably. Enjoy the surrounding panoramic views while your body adapts to the altitude.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
  • Altitude: 3,995m → 4,673m
  • Distance: 4 km | Time: 3–4 hours

Climb steadily through a stark, windswept alpine desert as you make your way toward Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt. The path is rocky and exposed, offering dramatic views of the summit ridge. Arrive by early afternoon, rest, enjoy an early dinner, and prepare for the midnight ascent.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
  • Altitude: 4,673m → 5,895m (Uhuru Peak) → 3,100m
  • Distance: 17 km | Time: 12–14 hours

Begin your summit attempt around midnight, ascending slowly in the crisp night air toward Stella Point (5,756m). From here, follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the highest point in Africa. Celebrate, take photos, and savor the moment before descending to Barafu Camp for rest and a warm meal. Continue your descent to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi

  • Distance: 10 km | Time: 3–4 hours

After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest filled with birds and occasional monkeys. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, complete check-out formalities and receive your summit certificate. Enjoy a picnic lunch before transferring back to Moshi for a hot shower, relaxation, and celebration.
